UKSTEM Privacy Policy

(reviewed 25th July 2019)

Who we are

UK STEM is responsible for determining the purposes and means of ‘processing’ personal data – which essentially means everything we do with it.

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) for UK STEM is Sally Richardson, available to contact at sally@ukstem.uk.

What we need and what we do with it

If you are part of the Global STEM Awards, we need your name, email address, age, postal address and school details. Your email address is so we can communicate with you about the award and support you through it. This is so we know who is completing the Global STEM Award and we can put this on your certificates. We also need student details – just their names and schools – for the certificates.

If you are part of Control Freak, we need your email address and name in order to contact you about our events. We need your child’s name, age, address, school, any relevant medical/dietary conditions and their emergency contact details. This is so we can meet our targets for the events in terms of the schools we work with, and so we know anything important about your child when they attend our events.

If you wish to subscribe to our newsletters, you will be given the opportunity to unsubscribe every time we email an update to you.

Who we share your data with

If you are part of the Global STEM Award, we don’t share your data with anyone! If you are a Control Freak participant, we will only share your child’s information with the University of Hull in our evaluations. You can find Hull’s University Privacy Policy here.

International data transfers and security

Your data will never be transferred outside of the EU.

How long we hold your information

We hold your information for however long is necessary. Typically, this would be for six years (in line with HMRC advice), but if we’re still in contact with you we’ll keep it for longer (with your consent).

Automated decision making

No automated decision making will be carried out using your data.

Your rights

You have the right to rectify your data at any time or to access your data at any time. If you are a member of the Global STEM Award this can be done through your account, or by contacting our DPO. If you would like to withdraw your consent – you can do this by contacting our DPO at beckie@ukstem.uk.

What happens if you don’t provide your information?

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to access our services if you don’t want to provide your information. However, we can promise not to share it or contact you if you don’t want us to.

Concerns or complaints

If you have any concerns or complaints, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with our Data Protection Officer Sally at sally@ukstem.uk. If you feel like you would like to take this further, please contact the ICO.

Where we got your information (if you didn’t provide it)

We don’t have access to any information that’s not been provided by you. If you don’t think you gave us your information, please contact our DPO at sally@ukstem.uk and we will look into it for you.
